Our Tri-M Leadership Team
A graduate of the University of Connecticut,Mr. Reynolds is the Director of instrumental music at IHS and is one of the supervisors for Tri-M. Mr. Reynolds also heads multiple clubs and is a supervisor for the M1 Crew.
Director of Vocal Music at IHS, Mrs. Jen Doherty has years of experience in vocal education. Mrs. Doherty supervises Tri-M and is also the Director of Vocal Music for the IHS Musical.
CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY - To be eligible for membership, the candidate must be a member of those classes designated as eligible in the local chapter bylaws. Candidates must have been in attendance at the school for the equivalent of one semester. The semester rule may be waived for a transfer student if the advisor receives a positive recommendation from the student's previous music teacher.
MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA Candidates are selected from school music students that exhibit exceptional scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Tri-M member consideration should not be limited to any one segment of a music program (such as band or chorus). The following criteria will be considered:
MUSIC PARTICIPATION -Candidates must have been enrolled in a school-sponsored music ensemble and or class for at least one semester of the current school year.
GRADES/SCHOLARSHIP- Candidates must have maintained for the previous semester at least a B average grade or equivalent overall in music, with a B average grade (85.0) or equivalent in other academic
LEADERSHIP - Leadership roles in both school and community may be considered as long as they can be verified.
SERVICE Service roles in both school and community may be considered as long as they can be verified. Service activities include any actions undertaken by the student that are done with or on behalf of others without any direct financial or material compensation to the individual performing the service
CHARACTER- Character may be considered, but judgment should be free of speculation and rumor. Character will be judged by a person who demonstrates respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
Tri M membership is an honor bestowed upon a student as a privilege, not a right.
What happens after you Apply/Audition
What occurs after you apply is based on your grade. Please read for the grade you are entering
Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores - After completing an audition the supervisors will decide whether accept or deny you. If accepted you will become a member of Tri-M. Any criteria that aren't followed will lead to membership suspension and or expulsion from society.
Freshman - After completing the application you will become a Tri-M Recruit for one year before you become a member. This position allows you to come to meetings and help plan events, and do what any other member can. During the spring of your freshman year, you can join/apply again to become a Tri-M member. Any Failure to not follow the criteria will be noted and could influence your acceptance to the society if not explained.
